What Can You Do on a National Wildlife Refuge?

Birding is one of the most popular activities on national wildlife refuges. Home to over 700 species of birds, the National Wildlife Refuge System contains some of America’s premier birding destinations. Don’t forget your binoculars and field guide!

Do you enjoy crisp early mornings and solitude in the woods? Refuges offer world-class hunting and fishing opportunities. There are more than 300 national wildlife refuge hunting programs and over 270 refuges offer fishing opportunities.

Take a walk in the woods. Whether you are walking, hiking, or driving through a national wildlife refuge, you will be reminded of the reasons why we need to protect and conserve these public lands.
