Your Help Is Needed - The Refuge System Is In Crisis!
We need your help! Dramatic funding cuts by Congress have resulted in closed refuges, lack of work to protect biodiversity and imperiled species, and loss of staff to provide programs and even law enforcement. That coupled with the damages from natural disasters like Hurricanes Helene and Milton and fires, tornadoes and flooding is crippling the entire System.
Congress must address this crisis!
A recent article in the Connecticut Examiner highlighted the drastic impacts from lack of funds. As National Wildlife Refuge Association President & CEO, Desirée Sorenson-Groves, points out in the piece, “They’ve cut the fat, the muscle, and now they are into the bone.”
The Refuge System and the wildlife that calls it home NEED YOUR HELP. Wildlife can’t speak for themselves, it’s up to us to be their voice!
Congress must do two things:
First, Congress must pass a supplemental funding bill addressing the damages of Hurricanes Helene and Milton and other natural disasters - and it must address the damages to the Refuge System from these disasters.
Second - when they come back after the election, they must pass a final FY 2025 appropriations bill that includes at least $602.3 million for the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Please take a moment right now to tell Congress they must do these two things immediately!
