During the talk, Geoff spoke of the National Wildlife Refuge System and the National Wildlife Refuge Association and the differences between a government agency and a nonprofit. The talk was hosted by Dr. John Wear, the Director of Catawba Center for the Environment and Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Science.

During the trip, Geoff also made a visit to the Elizabeth Stanback Gardens inside the Fred Stanback, Jr. Ecological Preserve. The preserve serves as an excellent place for students of the Catawba College to gain first-hand experience in the field participating in conservation work.
