New Partnership Changes Conservation Landscape in Florida

National Wildlife Refuge Association and Florida Conservation Group Extend Reach, Enhance Resources in State

The National Wildlife Refuge Association and Florida Conservation Group (FCG) recently agreed on a partnership to strengthen their respective work and impact in the state. The collaboration offers increased benefits to the Florida conservation community, including:

  • Leveraging resources of the two organizations to better reach landowners, state agencies, and state decision-makers more effectively.

  • Planning, land protection, and advocacy for refuge expansion in Florida.

  • Increasing visibility, presence, and credibility on the landscape with stakeholders, state agencies, and policymakers that affect state funding and conservation decisions.

“With the mutual overlap between our missions and an opportunity to strengthen the work of both organizations in Florida, this partnership is a no-brainer,” said Geoffrey L. Haskett, President, National Wildlife Refuge Association, who also noted the National Wildlife Refuge Association’s partnership with the University of Florida to identify the most critical lands for water and wildlife in the state. “The mix of the National Wildlife Refuge Association’s national focus and FCG’s local knowledge and partnerships around local refuge landscapes only enhances our impact and reach in Florida.”

“The National Wildlife Refuge Association’s countrywide presence, expertise, relationships, and extensive knowledge of the national refuge system and conservation builds on our continued work here in Florida,” said Jim Strickland, FCG Vice-Chairman. “This partnership represents an unprecedented level of collaboration in our state which benefits our conservation system and community while building our voice and impact.”

The National Wildlife Refuge Association works within national wildlife refuge landscapes as well as beyond the boundaries of national wildlife refuge lands to ensure that conservation efforts surrounding refuges complement and integrate habitats that support wildlife and other natural resources including water resources.

FCG advocates, educates, and acts as a resource for land protection and other conservation programs for protecting our wildlife and water. FCG is comprised of ranchers, scientists, and conservation and policy experts. FCG’s goal is to advance science-based land protection in the state of Florida.
