Ever wonder what lurks under the sea near some of the most remote national wildlife refuges? Well, now you can watch along and find out! During their 2022 E/V Nautilus Expedition, the Ocean Exploration Trust is on an eight-month mission exploring the remote waters of the Central Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands, the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, and Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
The ocean exploration project has already made amazing discoveries off the lands of Kingman Reef National Wildlife Refuge and Palmyra Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. In an upcoming leg of the journey, the team will be mapping the seafloor and documenting the diversity of the waters surrounding Johnston Atoll National Wildlife Refuge. The exploration also included exploration and mapping of the ancient seamounts of the Liliʻuokalani Ridge in Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, which includes Midway Atoll and Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuges.

The project is in coordination with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Sanctuaries, and National Geographic Society.
