National Wildlife Refuge Association & Friends – Partners in Advocacy

By Libby Marking, Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy, National Wildlife Refuge Association

As a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, promoting, and enhancing the National Wildlife Refuge System, we at the National Wildlife Refuge Association know firsthand the critical role these lands and waters play in providing safe haven for wildlife and protecting biodiversity. But despite their importance, national wildlife refuges are facing significant challenges when it comes to funding and staffing.

At a time when the need for the conservation and protection of natural habitats is greater than ever, it's crucial that we find ways to support and strengthen national wildlife refuges. That's why the National Wildlife Refuge Association is working to raise awareness about the challenges these systems face and advocating for increased funding and staffing to support their important work.

One key part of our strategy is to engage with government officials and lawmakers to secure increased funding for the Refuge System. The National Wildlife Refuge Association joins together a community of organizations and individuals who are committed to the health of national wildlife refuges, and we are working together to make a compelling case for why the National Wildlife Refuge System deserves greater support.

Ultimately, we believe that by working together and pursuing a range of different tactics, we can secure the resources needed to support and strengthen national wildlife refuges. We look forward to working with Friends toward these goals.

The National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA) has begun a campaign to address the refuge staffing crisis—click here for more information. In addition to today’s email message to Friends and other supporters, NWRA will be contacting key congressional offices as well as informing USFWS and refuge leadership of the campaign. NWRA also developed a fact sheet with more information about the staffing and funding challenges of the Refuge System. Additional information is available on the CORFA Facebook pageNow is the time to contact your own Congress members and ask for their support!
